Everyone needs a special place to escape to during a three day weekend. Or more importantly, everyone needs a place for children to escape to during a three day weekend. Or even more importantly, everyone needs a place, during a three day weekend, that will occupy the kids so that the parents can escape to the other side of the house for some peace and quiet.
And therefore, I give you the Three Day Secret Clubhouse. This clubhouse is very magical because it only appears maybe once or twice a year when a parent’s patience reserves are at an all time low… er, I mean when you want to create a fun and magical environment for your precious children to explore and to develop fond childhood memories. You have to be in the right place at the right time to see it, and you also have to PLAY in it because if you don’t, the Three Day Secret Clubhouse fairy in charge of spending 30 minutes to create the TDSC gets very frustrated at having wasted her time, packs up the pillows and blankets and the TDSC disappears from lack of use and you have to wait another 6 -12 months for it to reappear.
I cannot reveal the location of the TDSC, but I will tell you this, we ate all of our meals on tv trays in the living room. :~)
edited to add: Hey everyone! Thanks to the Crafty Crow , Ohdeedoh, and One Pretty Thing for the feature, and thank you for stopping by! I have been so pleased with the response, that I created a Flickr group so that everyone could share pictures of their secret clubhouses and/or forts that they have created with their children. Come on over to Under the Kitchen Table and share your creations! :~)

That’s enchanting!
teresa gave the perfect description…enchanting!
Looks like fun! And is something I am definitely going to remember for the future.
this looks like so much fun! This is such a creative way to spice things up at home! I always loved building forts with blankets and pillows
This is such a fabulous idea, and one I shall shamelessly steal during the xmas holidays. Love your photos as always, they capture the spirit of your family life beautifully.
xxxxxxx
They all look like they are having so much fun. The lights add such a nice touch, very magical.
Adorable getaway! It looks and sounds fabulous! I am going to school for speech lanugage pathology. It is amazingly hard- I am literally counting down the days to Christmas break. Nursing is such a great field. Many of my friends are in the field and enjoy it very much.
Hi! Here for the first time via the crafty crow! I love this! Especially the fairy lights. Too cool!
What a special spot! I love this!!
so wonderfully special!
I can not say “wonderful” enough. I could say it again and again and again and I would still want to keep saying it!
Wonderful.
See!
So beautiful!
What a great idea, we’ve done a clubhouse on the bunk beds, but I would not have thought the kitchen table! I love the lights hanging there, can I ask where you got them or if you made them? It looks so cozy too!
Magical… we all need a break from routine. Might be making a clubhouse this weekend!
doesn’t get anymore fun than this!!! my brothers and i always made ‘forts’ like this when we were younger . . . and now my girls are into making ‘tents’ too!! i am definitely going to try this out with them . . . they will absolutely love it!! thanks for the idea!!
OK this is just wonderful! I remember making these when I was young. I am definitely going to turn out table into one of these – the kids will love it! And the lights – perfect! We have a string of bunny lights we can use. I’m sure I can get frustrated enough this weekend to let the kids make one lol!!
Thanks so much everyone! :~)
Thanks, Marie! I got the lights on sale from Pier One, which is the only way that I can buy things from Pier one, about two years ago. It was an end of summer sale and I scooped them up for my back porch. I love that they look as if they could be hand made at home. I bet Martha would have some instructions on how to do something similar.
Hello again,
lol.
Thanks for your comments on my blog! I *loved* the photo’s from your little one’s Space birthday. What a cake! I finally posted Hug’s official Space adventure party pix on my blog tonight – it was only 6 weeks ago
I came back to live vicariously through this post again, so great!
ps- you should submit this to oneprettything.com
My mom made me a TDSC and watched cartoons with me for two days when I had the flu and couldn’t go camping with the girl scouts. She made trail mix and brought me a basket for books and stuffed friends. It was the first time I went “camping” (and put off me going camping until I was in my teens) and… it has really stuck with me. Your kids will really appreciate this, fifteen years from now, away from home and wishing they had an appropriate way to thank you for something a little silly and a little small that really stuck with them.
I let my kids do this every once in awhile. I love the added lights though, great job!
Thank you so much for sharing this. When I read your post I was instantly reminded that I did this as a kind and LOVED it! It did not only bring back great memories … I also had to try this with my daughter. And she loved it! If you want to read about it

And your get-away looks so cute! I really love the idea with the lights!
Miss Muffin
That’s so sweet! And you’re a queen decorating kids places! lol…
It all look so comfy!
Hey I just wanted to add… if you’re not very firm with your kids, you may end up sleeping here for the next oh, 3 weeks with your kids like I did. lol. But, we loved it (I even loved it for the first night….).
