So things have been a little slow on the blog lately because I have been reading the Lord of the Two Lands volumes by Pauline Gedge. Thanks for the recommendation, Kate! I just finished them up a few days ago.

The Hippopotamus Marsh Lord of the Two Lands (volume 1)

The Oasis Lord of the Two Lands (volume 2)

The Horus Road Lord of the Two Lands (volume 3)

Barry and I both read all three volumes and thoroughly enjoyed them. I was so wrapped up the the story, that I was reading every spare moment that I could grab. So instead of hanging out on the computer at night after the kids were in bed, I hung out on the couch and immersed myself in the lives of the Tao family.

Great reading, I highly recommend this series. Now I’m obsessed with ancient Egyptian history all over again. I was entranced with it in high school and did lots of reading up on the process of mummification and pyramid building. Now I’m more interested in the history of the Old Kingdom dynasties and the day to day life and beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. If anyone has some good suggested reading, I would love to know what you recommend.

I did have a moment of panic as I was nearing the end of the last book because I didn’t have anything lined up to read right away. Do you ever get that way after a long book or series? Like you don’t want the book to end because you wonder what you will find to read next that captures your attention so much? Then I remembered that I have FIVE more Maisie Dobbs books to read! Yay!!! I started the second in the series two nights ago. Many thanks to Rebekah for turning me on to this delightful series of mystery books. Look under her “Books” category to see her review.

Well, I guess I have to take the blame for thinking “WHEN is Jen going to post again?” Oooops. No more good book suggestions for you, missy! I need my GardenNymph fix more often than once a week. :)

Isn’t Pauline Gedge brilliant? She has written more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pauline_Gedge I’ll have to dig some up.

And we have MANY MANY MANY Egyptian reference books here; feel free to come over and peruse the shelves. My parents even went to Egypt a few years ago and gave me a CD of their pictures if you want to see how little things have changed over there. Quite amazing really.

I need to update my own blog. I’m re-reading some old Anne Rice and loving it!

  • oops…I went to thelibrary to get these books and bought the wrong series. I ended up with Lady of the Reeds…who knew she wrote so may egyptian novels?!

  • Gedge has a new one out too – I know because I had to read and review it for a local magazine. Did you know she lives in Nowhere Alberta and is one of Canada’s biggest selling authors? I certainly had no idea – I guess because she writes historical fiction about Eqypt and not “Canadian Lit.” I can’t say I was really into her last book while I read it but at the same time I am tempted to read whatever follow-up she comes out with just so I can find out what happens. I wonder if I have that book around here still – maybe I should mail it to you.

  • I am excited to check out the Maisie Dobbs books, I have not heard of them. I am ready for some new reading.
