Yesterday was “that day.” “that day” is what I call (in my head) the day that I first notice the change in the quality of the light around me. This change marks the onset of Autumn, and it is one of my favorite days of the year. When I first notice it, I gasp and say, [...] I remember when summer felt this good. I’ve never minded the first batch of Spring dandelions. Something about them takes me back to my childhood. I remember the feeling of excitement as I would rush over to a dandelion; hearing the satisfying snap as I plucked it from the ground, and watching with delight as the downy tufts swirled around my head [...] A wise friend once told me that life is not perfect, but it is filled with perfect moments. The trick is to recognize when you are in a perfect moment, and then time seems to slow down, and you completely immerse yourself in the moment, drinking in every detail, and committing it to memory. This afternoon [...] I was walking Hope around the yard this afternoon, keeping my head down as I held her hands and helped her to navigate the twigs and fallen branches in the yard. We stopped every now and then so that she could reach down and pick up a dry leaf to crunch in her hand or [...] It’s supposed to snow tonight. This happens approx. .5 times a year in these parts. We’ve had lots of rain and freezing temps lately, which has made for little delightful discoveries in the mornings of frozen miniature ponds in various unlikely reservoirs around the yard; such as a shovel with leaves trapped under a layer of [...] The sky cleared a little this evening just long enough to see the sun in it’s last 10 minutes of glory before it dipped below the horizon. I was in the kitchen washing the dishes, when I noticed out of the corner of my eye that everything looked different outside. In stark contrast to all [...] |
